Tune: "Windmills" (traditional, I think)
Note: The last line of the chorus changes slightly with each repetition.
In days gone by, when the world was much simpler,
Bright op-art pictures would dazzle the eyes.
Now it's the nineties, and we look at graphics that
Gain in detail as they increase in size.
And around, and around, and around go the fractals,
Images painted by my C.P.U.
Slower and slower with each iteration,
It should be done in an hour or two.
Fractals are pretty, and almost hypnotic,
But no matter now much new mem'ry I cram
Into my system, those neat fractal graphics will
Grow to use up all available RAM.
...a weekend or two.
Fractals that look just like mountains and valleys,
Fractals that simulate flowers and trees,
Fractals that model the structures of snowflakes,
Fractals that cause my computer to freeze.
...a decade or two.
Lots of phenomena seem to be fractal,
As we examine all natural law.
Maybe the universe is one big fractal,
Taking a few trillion years to redraw.
...an eon or two.
